From this page you can download three useful documents to help you get started with computing in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. Also keep your eye on computing information which is posted on Blackboard for each course.
Some first year courses include a lecture on Introduction to Computing and Maple/Matlab in Week 1 of semester: details will be posted on Blackboard.
This document (PDF) provides an overview of the workings of the computer labs in the School of Mathematics and Statistics.
This introduction to Maple will help you become familiar with the Maple package. Maple lab consultants are another source of help.
This introduction to Matlab will help you become familiar with Matlab.
It is not necessary for students to buy their own copy of Maple or Matlab, as these packages are available on all computers in the School of Mathematics and Statistics labs.
If you would like to use Maple or Matlab on your own computer, you can buy a student edition from the UNSW bookshop. Additionally, the student edition of Maple is available online from Maplesoft and the student edition of Matlab available online from MathWorks.
