The School of Mathematics and Statistics provides vigorous research programs and generous scholarships leading to MSc and PhD degrees. To find out more about doing an MSc or PhD with us, see our pages on postgraduate coursework and postgraduate research. The School is divided into three departments: Applied Mathematics, Pure Mathematics and Statistics. There is significant interaction between the departments in teaching, research activity and in research supervision. For the purposes of describing the School's research effort, the departments have been further divided into research groupings, as listed below. The School is actively involved in two national and UNSW research centres: the Centre of Excellence for Mathematics and Statistics of Complex Systems (MASCOS) and the Centre for Environmental Modelling And Prediction (CEMAP). The School is regularly successful in attracting external funding through bodies such as the Australian Research Council, see our recent grant successes. Research in Applied Mathematics
