Why UNSW?

UNSW - the research leader

UNSW is one of the world's leading research universities, both in mathematics and across the board. The Times Higher Education Supplement's 2004 survey placed UNSW in 36th place in the world overall, based on a range of criteria relevant to research (story). In 2002, the ISI, the publishers of the citation indexes, ranked UNSW mathematics number 14 in the world, based on citation impact (story).

At UNSW, you'll interact with leading reseachers keen to convey their passion for mathematics. See story on some of the School's stars and list of staff.

For a quick idea of UNSW's strengths, see the International Office's blurb and UNSW's overview.

UNSW - the community and lifestyle

UNSW is a 20-minute walk from Coogee Beach (pictured). Set in the relaxed and cosmopolitan Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, UNSW is the centre of a vigorous on- and off-campus student and academic life. On-campus, there are many student societies (including an active Postgraduate Board), and the excellent coffee shops are centres of stimulating discussion.

Mathematics at UNSW outside the School

UNSW, as a mature university with great strength in science and technology, has developed an extraordinary range of mathematically-focussed research groups across the campus. They include:

Students with interdisciplinary interests can therefore be assured of finding a wide range of contacts.
