Careers A research degree: path to jobs in academia and industry A research thesis is the ultimate proof of real understanding in mathematics. It is a necessary foundation for an academic/research career, but is also valued in industries that need high levels of mathematical skill. Example: Quant analyst, banking sector in operational risk and credit, "ideally with a PhD or advanced level qualifications in mathematics or statistics", circa $90-120K (10/11/04). Our postgrad alumni To see some role models, look through the School's alumni page. Those with postgrad degrees are identified - they have succeeded in a wide range of careers, academic and non-academic. |
