Girls Do the Maths Full Day Workshop, Wednesday, 26th October 2005 Attention Young Women doing Extension 2: Do you enjoy Maths? Did you know that you can do maths for a living? Mathematics is a dynamic area of research in numerous fields such as biomedical research, statistical analysis and financial markets. Mathematics reveals hidden patterns that help us understand the world around us. It is a diverse discipline that deals with data, measurements, and observations from science; with inference, deduction, and proof; and with mathematical models of natural phenomena, of human behavior and social systems. What’s more, the muscles required for mathematics are of the intellectual kind! Want to know some more? The University of New South Wales is holding a special workshop to highlight some of the unique career and study opportunities Mathematics can offer.
For information on how to find UNSW and the School of Mathematics (in the Red Centre), please look here. Note that the buses from Central Station to UNSW travel down Anzac Parade and stop at the Anzac Gate, as shown on the map. From there, just walk up University Walk and the Red Centre is the red building you will get to on your right. Walk past the first part of the building (Built Environment and the e-Spot) until you reach a small flight of stairs going up to the right. This takes you to the foyer of the School of Mathematics. If you get to the end of the building (with the International Office and a big fig tree) then you have gone too far.
