The Pure Mathematics Department is one of the strongest in Australia. Its interests span a wide spectrum of harmonic, and functional analysis with depth also in algebra and discrete mathematics through to aspects of computer science and physics. There are strong links with Applied Mathematics: indeed the Nonlinear Phenomena Group spans both departments.
