Computing Tests There are two different types of computing test in First Year mathematics: on-line tests and laboratory based tests. On-Line Tests The on-line computing test will be conducted through My eLearning Vista. Apart from needing access to Maple, students may do these tests any where they have web access. See the My eLearning Vista information page for technical details. Students in math1131/1141 will be required to complete one such test due at the end of week 6. Students in math1031 and math1011 will have until the end of week 11. The format of these tests is that students will be given an unlimited number of attempts at practice tests. Once a certain minimum score has been achieved (typically 30-50%), students will be given access to the final test. Students will have a limited number of attempts at this final test (3 or 5 depending on the course). Each test (practice and final) has a maximum allowed time. Laboratory Based tests All Laboratory Computing tests are sat in the large lab, Red Centre G012. Students in math1131/1141 and math1231/1241 have one Maple based computing test, run in weeks 9 and/or 10. Students in math1151 and math1251 have one MATLAB based computing test, run in week 7 or week 8. Full details of the tests are given in the appropriate version of the Computing Notes. Students have to book a session for the Computing Test. This is done through the School's Student Web Portal, which you must access through your course's My eLearning Vista home page. The message of the day for your course (which is displayed on login) will tell you when this becomes available, usually 4 weeks before the test is due to be sat. You will also be told in lectures when you may book for a test. Your login name and password are your usual sigma login and password. Your account will behave exactly as normal, except that all communication links will be cut: no email or internet access. None of the files you have in your usual account will be present either. Your Course Information Booklet should contain details of the test in your course, as well as practice questions and a sample test. If not, a copy of this material will either be given out in lectures and/or placed on the course home page, as well as being available below. Other sample tests may be provided on this current page nearer the time of the test. Notes
