Your Account

At the beginning of the session an account is made for you on the computers which gives you the right to use them. Your account will have a user name (which is always a z followed by your student number - such as z3900007), and you must create a password, see below, to protect your work from being accessed by other
people.

Note that all student accounts will be preserved from one session to the next, with the same password and this will ordinarily apply through out your time at UNSW. However, if there is a session in which you do not take a Mathematics course your account will be deleted. You will be warned about this via an email to your University email account in time to take any necessary steps to preserve your data.

Logging in

Once you have set you Mathematics and Statistics lab password, you can log in to any of the PCs in one of the labs using your user name and lab password.

Logging out

WARNING : DO NOT FORGET TO LOGOUT OF YOUR ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE LAB.

If you leave your account logged in and another user then misuses your account you are responsible. There is no automatic "time out" on Mathematics computers.

Week 0

During week 0, some first year course provide lectures to familiarise students with the School computing labs.

Following such a lecture, consultants will be in the lab (12noon to 4pm) to help first year students to work through any introductory material.

Passwords

The password used in the School of Mathematics and Statistics student labs is not your UNIPASS. Before you can log in to a PC in the lab, you must set your lab password. This can be done by following the "Maths Info" on the homepage of your maths course in my eLearning. This will take you to a webpage on which you can set you maths lab password. To do this, you will need your UNIPASS.

Further instructions for setting the password are on the password setting page.

You are advised to choose something not easily guessable.

If you forget your maths lab password, you can simply use the "Maths Info" link to set it again in the same way that you set it initially.
