Printing in the Computing Laboratories

Printing facilities are provided for student use in the School of Mathematics and Statistics Computing Laboratories.

To avoid abuse of this facility, there are limits applied to the number of pages a student can print free of charge.

Printer use is measured by the number of pages printed. Most printing is done double sided (both sides of the paper are printed) which uses 2 pages of quota per sheet of paper.

Number of Free Pages allowed per Session

The School of Mathematics and Statistics may provide free pages depending on the courses that you are enrolled in. After your initial quota has been used, you can purchase additional pages from the School Office in room 3070 of the Red Centre.

Going over Quota

Printing is allowed as long as a student has a positive credit. Once the credit goes to 0 or even below 0, all further printing requests are ignored. If you already have many jobs queued, only as many jobs are actually printed as your printing quota allows.

Finding out Your Credit

Your printing credit is displayed constantly when you are logged in to a computer in the School computing labs. You can also check your credit by visiting the Printing self service pages.

How to obtain more Pages

To obtain additional printing credit you need to contact the School of Mathematics office in Room 3070 for instructions where you can purchase a printing top-up card.

How to use a top-up card

  1. Log in to the Printing self service pages using your Mathematics password.
  2. Click on the "Use Card" link on the left.
  3. Type in the code as it appears on the card including dashes.
Account Expiry and Refunds

If your computing account expires because you are no longer doing any mathematics courses, you will no longer be able to access the computers to print. In this situation no refunds are available and your quota will be kept until you are next enrolled in a methematics course.
