Vacation Research Scholarships in Mathematics & Statistics 2009 - 2010 The Faculty of Science, Vacation Scholarships The School of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of New South Wales invites applications from undergraduates wishing to take part in research activities in the School during the summer vacation. Each Scholarship is valued at $3,600 for a 6 week research project. Applicants must be Australian/New Zealand residents who are currently enrolled in the senior years of an undergraduate program in science or a related discipline. The expected cost of full-board accommodation at one of the university colleges is approximately $300 per week. Vacation scholars will have the opportunity of seeing how research in mathematics is pursued, its application to important problems and the vital part it plays in today's world. Each scholar will work closely with a member of staff and will be tackling a problem of current interest. The School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW is the largest in Australia and attracts many research fellows and visiting mathematicians from all over the world. For many years it has had outstanding success in attracting Australian Research Council grants. The university campus is situated in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, close to surfing beaches such as Coogee, Bondi and Maroubra and close to shopping centres and entertainment venues.
