Undergraduate Scholarships & Awards Each year, the School of Mathematics and Statistics offers a number of Scholarships to students entering the University of New South Wales and enrolling in programs of study including Mathematics or Statistics majors or study plans. These are reviewed annually, and may be renewed for up to a total of four years. The scholarships are worth $5,000 per year. Scholarships include:
The School may offer more than one scholarship in one or more categories, or none if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. These Scholarships cannot be held in conjunction with certain other awards. The University and Faculty of Science scholarships can be found (look here). Currently, in total at least ten new scholarships are available each year for studying Mathematics and Statistics. Details of the Scholarships The School of Mathematics and Statistics Scholarships $5,000 be year are awarded to the student (or students) with the best high school performance (based on HSC Mathematics results and UAI) who enrols in a degree program which includes one of the possible majors or study plans in Mathematics. For renewal, Scholars must enrol in Mathematics courses so that, by the end of their Second Year, they have completed at least 36 Units of Credit of Mathematics courses, and by the end of their Third Year, they have completed at least 60 Units of Credit of Mathematics courses. They must also maintain a superior level of achievement in their University studies. The School of Mathematics and Statistics Teachers Scholarships are awarded to a student (or students) with a UAI of at least 85 who wishes to become a Mathematics teacher and enrols in an appropriate degree program. Applicants must include a statement of no more than 500 words about why they wish to become mathematics teachers, and an academic and general reference from their high school Mathematics teacher. For renewal, the students must continue their enrolment in a degree program for prospective Mathematics teachers and must maintain a satisfactory level of achievement in their University studies. The School of Mathematics and Statistics Rural Scholarships $5,000 per year are awarded to a student (or students) from a country high school with a UAI of at least 95 who enrols in a degree program which includes one of the possible majors or study plans in Mathematics. For renewal, the students must maintain progress through Mathematics courses at the same rate as the School of Mathematics and Statistics Scholars. They must also maintain a high level of achievement in their University studies. The School of Mathematics and Statistics Statistics Scholarships $5,000 per year are awarded to a student (or students) with a UAI of at least 95 who enrols in a degree program which includes a major or study plan in Statistics. Applicants must include a statement of no more than 500 words explaining why they wish to study Statistics. For renewal, the students must maintain progress through Mathematics courses at the same rate as the School of Mathematics and Statistics Scholars. They must also maintain a high level of achievement in their University studies. These Scholarships may also be awarded to students who have completed First Year at the University of New South Wales with excellent results. The Alma Douglas Scholarship in Statistics and Mathematics is available to students currently undertaking the HSC (or equivalent) and proposing to undertake full-time study in the Bachelor of Science (Advanced) in Statistics and Mathematics at UNSW. Selection will be based on academic merit. The scholarship is worth not less than $6,000 per year. It will usually be awarded for the duration of the undergraduate study, subject to satisfactory progress. Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. The School of Mathematics and Statistics Meteorology and Oceanography Scholarships are awarded to a student (or students) with a UAI of at least 95 who enrols in a degree program which includes a major or study plan in Meteorology and Oceanography. Applicants must include a statement of no more than 500 words explaining why they wish to study Meteorology and Oceanography. For renewal, the students must maintain progress through Mathematics courses at the same rate as the School of Mathematics and Statistics Scholars. They must also maintain a high level of achievement in their University studies. These Scholarships may also be awarded to students who have completed First Year at the University of New South Wales with excellent results. Girls Do The Maths Scholarship is awarded to female students who commit to undertake full-time study in a Bachelor of Science with a Mathematics major or study plan. The scholarship will be tenable for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory progress and will have a value of $5,000 per year. In order for the scholarship to be renewed, recipients must have completed by the end of their second year at least 36 Units of Credit of courses offered by the School of Mathematics and Statistics, and 60 Units of Credit by the end of their third year. Recipients must maintain a WAM of at least 75 in their studies.
