Prof. Mark Kisin of the University of Chicago will present a lecture in the 2007 Australian Mathematical Society's Mahler Lecture series.
Title: Modular elliptic curves and Fermat's last theorem
Date: Thursday, 20 September 2007
Time: 3:00 pm
Venue: OMB-149, Old Main Building, UNSW
This will be a somewhat historical talk. I will give an overview of the ideas that go into the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, its relation with modularity of elliptic curves, and perhaps some of the more recent developments in the subject.
The talk should be accessible to good third year undergraduates.
