UNSW Science Year 10 Work Experience 2016

UNSW Science will be running the Year 10 work Experience Program from 28 November to 2 December 2016. We are currently accepting applications from students in Years 10 who are enrolled in an Australian secondary school.

All successful applicants will be notified on Monday 18 July, 2016. Based on our 2015 pilot, we expect the selection process for up to 25 available places to be competitive.

 

Our work experience program aims to give students the opportunity to:

  • Gain insight and experience into the faculty’s everyday work, which involves a diverse array of Sciences
  • Learn what it's like to be a scientist
  • Explore their career and study interests

Conditions of participation

  1. You must be a student in Year 10 and enrolled in an Australian secondary school
  2. You will be required to follow the UNSW Science Code of Conduct, Values and Occupational Health Safety and Environment policies
  3. Lunch plus travel to and from the UNSW Kensington campus is the responsibility of the student
  4. Work experience requires you to attend for 'work' at specific times and comply with instructions from your supervisor(s) or host(s)  
  5. The normal working day for work experience is 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, subject to variation. We usually allow 1 hour for lunch.
  6. Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toed shoes (you won’t be allowed into the labs without proper footwear).

Supervision

The work experience students will be supervised at all times other than when on a break. Students will be supervised by a variety of university staff including technical, postgraduate students and academics.

How to apply

If you are interested in participating in our 2016 work experience program, then please complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the expression of interest form
  2. Provide the necessary school-based material for completion by all parties (school, parents, UNSW Science)

The entire application pack should be received by Sunday 5 June 2016 and must be emailed to the Science Future Students office via studyscience@unsw.edu.au with the subject “Work Experience Application – Student’s Name
