Research by School members featured by American Institute of Physics publication "Scilight"

We are proud to reveal that research by several School members has been featured in the American Institute of Physics (AIP) publication "Scilight".

Christopher Angstmann, Bruce Henry, Ignacio Ortega-Piwonka, and colleague Peter Reece (of UNSW Physics) recently had their article, Noise induced aperiodic rotations of particles trapped by a non-conservative force, published in AIP's journal Chaos.

Their research findings have subsequently been showcased in Scilight, a publication which emphasises new and significant contributions to a field of science.

The findings of Angstmann et al. present a simple dynamical model which demonstrates how noise might cause a particle in an optical trap, otherwise expected to remain stationary, to develop a winding motion whose phase angle grows linearly over long times.
