Abstract:

In this seminar Yudhi will give a short account of his participation in the recent Science Faculty regional outreach road trips to the Central West. In this expedition he ran workshops in maths and others from UNSW ran workshops in physics and in chemistry. He will discuss some of the challenges of running this and future workshops and report on some of the surprising feedback he received.

In addition he will give some very personal reflections on what he learned from this trip about equity and diversity, the mathematical community  and participation in mathematics.

About the speaker:

Yudhi completed his Honours in Statistics at UNSW in 2017. Since then, he has maintained his engagement with the School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW as a Casual Academic, including in community outreach on campus and off campus. In late 2018 he joined with others from the Science Faculty to go on a road trip taking maths and science workshops and experiences to Dubbo in the NSW central west.

Everyone is welcome to this seminar, particularly students.
